Hotel Gym Review: Hotel Indigo

Location: 901 East Washington| Madison Wisconsin | 53703

The Hotel Indigo in Madison, WI gets one of the best reviews I have delivered in some time. The hotel and the staff are wonderful. The location in downtown Madison provides easy access to the sites, shopping and dining. The Fitness Center was great for my two day stay. The facility was available 24 x 7, well-equipped and clean. I did a full chest workout on day#1 and a treadmill cardio workout (plus my daily toning routine) on day #2. I could not ask for more. I will be reserving my room for my next trip to Madison at the Hotel Indigo

Grading System (my own): 1 = Unacceptable, 2 = Marginal, 3 = Acceptable, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Accessibility:

The fitness center is located on the lower level (LL) of the building. I took the elevator only because I have become wary of the limited access in stairwells. The center is open 24 x 7 x 365. It is located next to a restroom (a plus).

Facility Size:

The Fitness Center at the Hotel Indigo is basic but functional. It is large by hotel standards (photos below). Given the hours I train (I was there around 4 – 430 am both days) I never encountered more then two others using the facility, so it was never crowded. There is a bathroom next door. No shower or changing room available but not needed (imo) for hotel guests.

Cleanliness:

The Hotel Indigo maintains its Fitness Center like the rest of the facility. It was very clean. Gym wipes were available both days. The floors and equipment were free of dirt and stains.

Equipment:

Precor. I will say no more. The fitness center was well equipped with state-of -the art equipment (photos below). I was able to complete a full body workout leveraging the PreCor multi-gym and the free weights. A Bosu ball, medicine balls and bands were also available. There were only a limited number of benches for those using free weights, a limited number of mats for the floor but this may reflect the overall usage of the facility.

Environment:

Perfect. No sweater needed. Despite being on the lower level the fitness center had great temperature control. The lighting was excellent, and the windows provided a street level view for those on the cardio equipment. All the surfaces were clean (a pet peeve of mine and I greatly appreciate the hotel’s attention to detail). The décor of the fitness center matched the rest of the hotel with a light, airy, industrial feel.

Nutrition:

There was a filtered water dispenser in the gym which is again a plus and not found in many hotel gyms.
