Plaza 10K Prep Journal III
This year is flying by. I can't believe that there are only 2 months and 7 days before the Plaza 10 K!! I hope if you are reading this that you have signed up to run or walk the course. If that is not an option then I hope you will be there to cheer on the participants. You can learn more about the 10th Annual Plaza 10K that benefits Saint Luke's Home Care and Hospice House on the race website.
Training is going well. I tried a few of the apps out on the app store and I have committed to using the 10K Runner, Couch to 10K Run app by Fitness22 LTD. I think there are some ways they could improve the app from a UI and motivational perspective, but overall it is helping me make good progress.
What keeps me motivated? The first few weeks it was fear of humiliation, LOL! That has changed. Now I am enjoying the peaceful mornings where I am running under the streetlights and I can hear the frogs croaking and the birds singing. On my long run days I jump out of bed knowing that I have a full hour to listen to some of my favorite podcasts. I am addicted to Rich Roll, The Exam Room Podcast (PCRM), In the Bubble with Andy Slavitt, Radio Headspace and more. The combination of learning and physical activity is a great way to start my day.
I am stretching more out of necessity. The combination of running and weight lifting makes it key that I maintain my flexibility, in part to reduce my risk of injury. Nutrition remains plant-powered. I am on a bean and banana kick at the moment. I train fasted (I cannot eat or drink before I run); this is a question some have asked in the comments. I have been training fasted for years so I have adapted and it does not impact my performance.
How are you doing with your SMART goals? Are you prepping for any upcoming events (in-person or virtual)? What challenges or successes do you have to share? Feel free to comment below. Have a wonderful week!
